BUYING AND SELLING GUIDE

Guide On Buying & Selling.

Buying.

There are a number of ways you can do this:

  • ATTENDING THE SALEROOM -

You will need to register your details with us before bidding. These are just basic details and will not be shared with any third parties. You will be given a unique bidding number which will never change.

On sale day, collect your bidding number from the office and if you are the winning bidder show your number to the auctioneer. When you have finished bidding simply return your number to the office. If you were successful you will need to pay for the items, hand your invoice to a member of staff and they will get the items for you. PLEASE DON'T RETRIEVE THE ITEMS YOURSELF AS MISTAKES CAN BE MADE.

When buying items there will be a buyers fee of 12.5% on top of the hammer price. We are currently under the threshold of VAT so that is all, you will not pay VAT. If buying anything motor driven up to £1000 there is a fixed fee of £50 and over £1000 a fixed fee of £75. This is instead of the normal 12.5%.

You don't have to wait until the end of the sale to pay for and collect any winning lots.

  • LEAVING ABSENTEE BIDS

If you are interested in something in the sale but cannot attend then this is a good option as we will bid on your behalf.

To do this you will need to be registered with us.

Make a note of the item number and let us know what your maximum bid is. We will then bid on your behalf and let you know if you were successful.

Be aware of our bidding increments:

Up to £20 we increase in £1 units

From £22 to £40 we increase in £2 units

From £42 to £60 we increase in £2/£5/£8 units

From £60 to £160 we increase in £5 units

From £170 to £400 we increase in £10 units

Over £400 we increase in £20 units. The auctioneer reserves the right to increase at smaller units if they deem that necessary.

NB. A simple way of working out how much to leave is to  set a target price. Then ask yourself would you bid more than that if you were at the auction. If the answer is yes then do imaginary bidding until you reach YOUR maximum price. If the answer is no then you have done well.

  • TELEPHONE BIDS

Another option if you are not able to attend and the item is likely to exceed £50.

We will ring you before the lot is about to start and you can bid against the room and the internet.

If we don't know you we may ask for a small deposit prior to the sale. This will be either used against your winning bid or refunded in full if you are not successful.

  • LIVE INTERNET BIDDING

This is the most popular way to bid as you can join in live from anywhere in the world.

We use easyliveauction.com to host our sales. To listen in and bid live you will need to register your details with them.

SELLING

We do have a large number of regular sellers on our books and they all have to abide by the same rules.

Once again you will need to register with us prior to selling.

Each seller is allowed to bring 10(ish) lots per sale which includes ONLY ONE banana box size 'job lot'

If you have large furniture items then please contact us in advance. Don't just bring them along as we may not accept them. Smaller items such as bedside drawers, small bookcases etc are OK, along with white goods.

We would prefer it if you brought a list of what you are leaving with us, detailing any issues that are known and any reserves you may have.
